Historical Legacy & Living Heritage of Casa del Virrey

The ownership and curatorial leadership of Casa del Virrey spearheaded the founding and presidency of the Center of History of San Sebastián de Mariquita (chartered on December 6, 1998). Under this institutional leadership, the commemorative journal Noticias Históricas was conceived, directed, and published, bringing together preeminent scholars from the Colombian Academy of History and regional researchers to rescue the viceregal, scientific, and republican memory of the city.

The journal's emblem rests upon the botanical rendering of Passiflora mariquitensis, an endemic passion flower discovered by the sage José Celestino Mutis along the La Figueroa stream in Mariquita. Today, this complete archival collection is made accessible to historians, researchers, and prospective investors as living proof of the unparalleled heritage surrounding the BIC estate.
